So, I attempted to contact another lawyer today and was told that the amount of work that would need to be done with this case would be too much for the estimated return, so "sorry but good luck, we can't help." 

Is it worth it to attempt my first wholesaling deal in the Southern California market or should I really be looking out of state?

I keep my eyes out for deals in Midland but haven't pulled the trigger between cost of entry and attempting to keep some diversification since my W-2 job is oil/gas related which closely matches housing market in Midland.
