That particular deal was a 3/1.5 for $170K within 10 minutes of the entrance to Fort Sam.

I would like to create an in-law suite of sorts, add a separate entrance plus kitchenette, and rent it out.

Also the commercial space looks to be smaller than the residential, as a portion of the downstairs is used as the entrance / stairway to the upstairs.

Currently I am using ring floodlight cams on my front and back entrances.  

Do you lock the basement inside entrance or do these people have access to your home upstairs and how do you manage that.?

So the one I ended up buying is a single family house in a nice neighborhood, that had a finished basement downstairs, with a separate entrance. 

And I'd try to find a home with a basement apartment or separate entrance so you can rent that as a long-term or on Airbnb.

Also looking at maybe basements that have separate entrance, or could have one put in.

A few must have's to echo others:- Digital locks with a lockbox to a physical key if something happens with the lock- Digital thermostat so you can manage your HVAC system- Cameras that point to all entrances.

Put in the front entry with concrete so there is no question on some of the Double access entrances, of who pays to start with.Most of the local builders won't touch these lots as spec homes, because they are used to $35,000 to $75,000 lots.
