Several rooms will need drywall, paint, trim, doors, and some electrical (can lights, fireplace inserts, appliances).

The hardwood floors and fireplaces aren't made today and if the building wasn't special in this way I doubt we would have bought it.   

Just for the heck of it I once put a newspaper front page in a ziploc bag inside a mantle I hung above a fireplace. 

New lightingWe are going to paint the fireplace a bit darker to match the new wall paint. 

That's OK because soon you will have a shiny new one stuffed and mounted above your fireplace.

These fireplaces look cheap but fairly functional. 

Some cannot figure out how to use the gas fireplace or gas fire pit.  

You can cozy up by the fireplace with a view of the lake in the winter and people do.

For us it has woods, acerage, picturesque cottage with stone fireplace.
