I agree that for more significant renovations, hiring contractors that are experienced can help make timelines more predictable and avoid unnecessary delays.

Properties still have to be managed properly and who you do business with and their professionalism matters! 

Depends on the person, but as a professional real estate investor it would be a no brainer for me.

Unless you are confident in estimating the renovations needed, I would highly recommend getting a contractor's professional opinion of the rehab costs.
