I now own a nice duplex as well I found off market through networking, and fixed up as well that I live in and rent the other side, and my cost of living is now cheaper than it's ever been in my 13 years as a renter/homeowner.

I do like to do it that way for a couple of reasons, your name appears as an Insured and the true owner is not the primary insured.As far as the cost difference, in our area I have found that, for the good properties, the personal policies (dwelling fire) can be cheaper.

While the companies are legit, the real de facto interest rate is actually extremely high, as the monthly payment increases over the lifetime of the loan.I cannot recommend a bank or company because I didn't need to use one, as I used cheaper developer/seller financing.
