This person seems more like a hoarder of money than an investor and I am not impressed.

Since you have 50k available, you should jump on a plane with a cheap fare over the weekend, stay in Michigan, look at the 5-10k properties and then be able to come away with the impression of whether you want to go further or not.

I’m sorry I gave that impression.

I was impressed by his BP podcast at the time even looking him up online for more info on his magic "freedom number" and his impressive marketing skills.  

That was my impression of the area as well. 

Speak with your other neighbors around the house there, and get their impressions of that resident. 

Up here the land alone would be worth $50k & you can't get a shack for <$90k.We have had several local 'shacks' bought & then they built McMansions that are beyond impressive & certainly improve the area.

When I go to the Keys, I stay in Key Largo because its about halfway between Miami and Key West. key Largo itself isn't that impressive in my opinion, I just like the location.
