I have worked in healthcare for 26 years doing imaging...i.e Xray, Cat Scan and now Vascular Ultrasound....have a good work ethic and rarely call in sick...LOL.

This rolls the tax one would have originally paid on the sale into the new property, deferring it until the sale of that property, unless that property is exchanged again.The tax can be quite significant, for example here in California our capital gains tax rate can be 30-40% of the gain (when you add up the federal and state capital gains taxes, depreciation recapture of 25% and the possible health care tax).

@Shannon K. and @ Steven Payne,thank you kindly for your votes, but the credit goes to @Marcia Maynard (our resident ADA, low income, healthcare, communications guru ). in a previous thread about how to get rid of smoke smell, she mentioned the vinegar bowl method used successfully with her piano performer husband.i just improvised on top of that with a dog house/basement (since bleach would have me faint in that relatively confined space). no smells reported for 3 years
