I much prefer VRBO bookings over airbnb, however it seems lately that VRBO seems to be going downhill with some of the things they have implemented lately.  

If its implemented in a similar way its a real "nothing-burger".

If they were light smokers, you may be able to wipe everything down, clean the carpet, and run an ozone machine for a day or two and remove the odor.
