.- There was no mention of security deposit being deposited into an interest accruing account, and I wasn't aware of this requirement until I started doing some research in lieu of the incident above (so I never requested this information from my end either).

When you invest in Apple or Amazon with your IRA, you do not get to write software or otherwise provide services to one of those companies and have the benefits of your labor accrue to your IRA, do you? 

I'd hold the home hostage / impound till it was paid all the while accruing billable months.
