In the much more common exemption from registration, was it an intrastate exemption, a Reg D filing, or did the offering rely on the general exemption for private placements?  

Alternatively, you could cash out a little bit, say $500k, and do private lending on your area of expertise, single family homes.

There are private investors or JV partners that will offer funds to do that.
