I'm not an attorney but, would not want to be defending myself from an allegation that i took advantage of someone in foreclosure.The registration would be applicable to all but a very specific, small group of entities/people.

You got into this with no money down and don't have the money to hire an attorney to fight the "false" allegations.

We sold everything we owned and emptied out the 401K just to pay the lawyers and the other expenses required  to fight the allegations,  to be found not guilty.  

An owner/operator will carry, normal property insurance to cover the existing loan AND liability insurance for tenant and their guest(s) alleged injuries on the property. 

Worse, any improvements you make to the property probably were done by a volunteer and therefore belong to the fee owner and you may not be entitled to reimbursement.Sure you can allege anything you want in a quiet title action, and if nobody responds who is the wiser. 

The other horrible part about this incident is that allegedly there were NO smoke detectors installed.

He/his family will then figure out *their* problem (they will find the alleged receipt or get a refund of their money order and pay up, he'll borrow the money from someone, etc. or the m.o. might really turn up in the mail.

Look as SB13 for the protections provided for illegal units (search for either "5" or "Five").BTW I recently got tagged for various minor alleged unpermitted work. 

I guess I got caught up in the alleged cash flow.
