We discovered there was a leak from a frozen pipe and we couldn’t fix it before closing so we couldn’t get a conventional mortgage (no running water-ended up being 2” of copper supply pipe to replace).

They finished the repair and I'm waiting for the bill, guy said maybe 5 grand.. and not covered by insurance for me.. but we got it fixed before freezing weather and that would have been much harder to fix, he said frozen ground price doubles.

In cold climates you want to make sure the deepened perimeter of the slab is below the frost line so the expansion of frozen soil doesn't heave the building up, but if it has been fine since the 50's you should be ok.
