I'll agree with @Ashish Acharya here: if you're wanting to sell the property primarily as a way to get some tax-free cash, then yes, sell within three years after moving and you qualify for the $250k(single)/$500k(married) Sec 121 exemption.

If I recall correctly (although I can't find that citation), that exemption also applies to officers of a corporation.

If you want to live in the house and title it in your name you get tax benefits upon sale (if occupied 2 years as your primary residence 250K if single and 500K if married) gains are tax exempt.
