Usually up to 3/4 inch you can just brace it, if it's more it pays to have an engineer look at it, before you excavate.To estimate cost of bracing you can get a ballpark number by multiplying the linear feet of wall by $100 - so a 60ft wall will cost about $6000.

Rather than a lot of smaller cabinets (eg 18 inch), go for fewer bigger ones (eg 24 inch), this will keep costs down as you'd need 2 24 inch vs 3 18 inch.

You can also buy little plastic rings that will insert around the wire where it comes out of the box, which is the area that is impossible to get tape around, and also the area with the most movement and chance of shorting.2 - You ought to have 6 inches of wire coming out of the box.
