For those that have yet to do this, it takes less than 10 minutes if you are a single member llc - just make sure to have a copy of some sort of identification. we did all of ours .. and our attorney contacted us as well and let us know to get them done or he would do them for us. 

I had a similar experience in San Diego with a fourplex that came directly from a builder connection.

Kaushik,Before you decide, contact your agent and find out  if, by excluding the roof coverage, you are also excluding ensuing damage.

I know it's complicated, but I just really am looking for help and direction with this property.  

To answer your title directly, house hacking is entirely worth it and if you're willing to be a landlord it's 100% the best springboard to financial independence.
