@Robert CarpenterI haven't read the case but have heard of it, yes you have the basic history of the SEC and their role but it is much broader today.The SEC rules specifically exempt mortgages and consumer notes in purchasing as securities in their origination and that is covered under related finance laws.

Third question s then, what contingencies can be addressed giving the entity broader powers in operating in different aspects of real estate, investing techniques and the customary "what ifs"?

Sometimes people may have a great deal of experience in one aspect of a broader pie and then want to claim expertise in the broader pie.Personally, I would be reluctant to call myself an expert in real estate tax issues even though I have more than 15 years experience working with many aspects of real estate taxation.

I currently work as a program manager (9-5) in a technical field, which my mech degree comes in extremely handy when engineers want to BS some things.But what I learned as a program manager has been extremely valuable, from managing with various personalities to seeing the broader picture of problems.

If some of those occupants who cause the occupancy to go over the standards are part time, I'd find out how the broader rules treat part time occupants or how they define guests.  

However, if I choose to continue with school, I'll definitely make sure to take courses that will have some relevance to RE and can help me have a broader knowledge.
