Personally, for other reasons (oil, economic diversity etc.), I've avoided Houston, but hurricanes and probability of natural disasters is also something I consider when selecting investment markets.FYI: It's now at over 100,000.

But, it is so much more profitable with the risk diversified amongst hundreds of renters and their diverse set of jobs, the growth of the Millennials staying renters and the Boomers following suit, the lowest home ownership rate in years, and the overwhelming number of foreigners coming in buying investments...at least these investments should be good!

Do the math on the 401k for your situation, for most people having that tax savings now is a good thing and having diversity beyond RE is not unreasonable, but if your other loans are bringing in enough cash flow that you wouldn't be in a tough spot if one went vacant or the rental market turned, I don't see much point in paying those down.
