If it was just rent, which is easily quantifiable, it would be a different thing, in my opinion, because you can easily show that amount of rent was owed to you, and they didn't pay it.

If you chose not to, then don't make it someone else's responsibility to teach you these things or explain them in a way that suits your needs.We all understand Time Value of Money and can use it to talk about this question and quantify basic assumptions about opportunity cost, interest rate risk, compounded annual growth rate, etc.
