Now in this particular case, it may be important to understand now that the OP as the investor has been harmed (even if by perception), I would imagine one of the claims to go after JW is that the investment was in fact a security and he lacks the appropriate license to sell securities.  

I don't see the harm in you being added to her house and splitting the income so you could then make more future purchases and continue to increase your cash flow. 

I like taking calculated risks, I've left six figure jobs twice to peruse my dreams, fortunately I have a wife that believes in me and that I will not harm our family in my ventures.
