I would say for about the last year it has looked deserted driveway not plowed and over the summer the yard would be overgrown one day and cut two days later.

Long term, I'm very pessimistic for homes outside the "loop 101", when the economy improves, and gas goes over $5 again, those homes will be in a desert ghetto - your potential tenants will be spending more for gas than rent.

On the other hand, well-done desert architecture, landscaping, and vibrant colors are awesome, and frankly a very easy way to distinguish yourself from the million or so "meh" properties around the valley.
