There is still a potential right of redemption, or issues in the process that could create headaches, but the system was designed to get properties back into commerce and that simply wouldn't be possible if title issues persisted in perpetuity.   

Yes, I do think it's safe to say the HI market will perpetually appreciate. 

If you've built those up to let's 500k, then at a 3.5% safe withdrawal rate you can pull out $17,500/yr into perpetuity (incl adjusting for inflation).

If you're more pessimistic that they are or your cost structure is higher (thinking about experienced vs. notice flippers) then you'll never see the value that they do in a property and perpetually be outbid unless, well, you get lucky.  

This is a country (I've been there) that has a perpetual 365 day smog layer that makes LA's look like a bad cauliflower fart.

I'll be out of state so perpetual headaches are something I'd like to avoid.
