It's possible that if your negligence did cause the problem, your insurance might cover the cost of temporary lodging for the tenant.

We're doing STR's in Kansas City which gets 35M visitors a year that spend $1.4B on lodging.

Might as well lodge a complaint with them and they might give you some other resources too.As a landlord, which technically this owner is, he has responsibility to maintain the property and utilities.

If you are buying something to far below a reasonable offer, you run the chance of having a complaint lodged against you with a real estate commission, and the commission fining you over this.

Likewise, coziness or lodge style is extra appealing.

As a commercial hard money lender I can tell you that out of 300 loans I've made in the last 9 years only 3 have been lodgings.

The funny thing I learned about the average labor person in Mass, you know, the husky dudes wearing flannel, is that they would prefer to sit in their basement smoking pot all day or hanging out at their basement bar with their buddies bitching about having no work and playing video games or still thinking the crappy band they are in is cool because they get to play the local PNA or Elk's lodge once every few months.

Either way won't be pretty mainly now that the Black Sands Lodge (camp) , Super 8 and the Nova Hotel are burnt to the ground.
