Just make them nice and median-priced to find the sweet spot in the current market.

I was raised by "Poor Dad (parents)" who taught me those concepts growing up, and is still mostly their values, but they were also lucky enough to have lived in a time where that worked well enough for them as they retired with a very nice nest egg.

I don't know if he was making it out to seem better than it actually is, but it seemed pretty nice.

In my situation, we kept the property in the current loan which has been a nice cash flowing asset for both of us. 

My owners who have updated their homes with modern furniture packages and highly themed rooms, along with a nicely equipped game room do much better than those who do nothing to the home and hope it will attract some guests. 

An email marketing funnel for re-booking is nice, but it's barely keeping up with the year over year decline in rents due to saturation (quantity saturation AND quality saturation) and shifting travel trends.  20 years ago your hot tub made your listing an all-star.
