I've never tested it.For Singapore (I lived there for a few years) I believe you need to be a permanent resident in order to buy property.

Remodeled a house before that had several animals as pets in the house (dogs and cats both) the animals were not let outside to use the bathroom (from what it looked like ever) we sanded down the hardwood filled a pump up sprayer with the odorxit (super contracted stuff mix as stated in bottle) sprayed all of the floors till they were soaked with it then opened the windows to let it all air dry.

As you mentioned: it will be hard but not impossible to find the right deal-- something you should bear in mind also is that when you are looking for 2-4 units with FHA, duplexes have to pass less "tests" to qualify your financing and are typically easier to get into.
