While you might think that there's nothing wrong about getting paid for a referral as long as it's good (I've never done it myself), the problem lies elsewhere: you have to understand that their opinion or advice could be biased or first and foremost in their own self-interest, especially if they're not disclosing their financial interest.

If anyone has a referral I'd like to know who to contact for quotes and to build a relationship with to handle all or our repairs.  

I will also be looking for a contractor and property manager in the area and would appreciate any referrals.
