Our street is next to a fancy country club neighborhood, with a golf course & yacht club. 

I haven't done any fancy tricks (unless you consider living in a rehab a trick) and have left the equity in each property.

Keep the big, fancy things you want to buy in front of you all the time to remind you what you're working for.

Even the ones that file an answer, in the end, don't have the cojones to try to justify their actions to the man in the black dress.

Could always dress it up with nicer trim around windows, update flooring, outlet covers, etc.

Consider a REIT or partnering with someone on the ground in a local you fancy.
