That connection could be a sibling, a cousin, or a close family friend that has some money they don't need right now, and won't need for a little while yet in the future.  

Grates on me because just after world war two my next door neighbor was an English war bride and a former professor of English at Oxford University and my siblings and I drove her crazy with our farm country English and improper use of the language. 

Factor that in, potential title issues from a hasty probate, multiple decision makers (sibling/multiple heirs) and obtaining commercial financing.

This is the sort of thing that makes for long term family conflicts.The sibling who lives there is living in a house she cannot afford.

The sibling whom we planned to sell it to took a long time to get a mortgage (contracts and time limits are important) and along comes sandy which floods it to well into the first floor unit (things happen) and we are in limbo.
