I would TSP (same recipe) all doors, all trim, cabinets etc and go with a poly/stain combo (like Poly shades, for one step) on wood finish.

I wanted to choose a dark cabinet color because a light color might make the cabinet look cheap and a darker color will cover up some of the imperfections better.I have a deep red accent wall (this is what the cabinets are lying against) in the white painted kitchen. dark grey-ish tiled floors, black countertop, SS appliances.Are there any interior decorators that can help a guy out?

Another small tidbit: I almost always use a darker wood laminate but there are circumstances that call for a lighter wood so I have used a bamboo which can really pop and occasionally they have on sale at a good price.

THe shade from the tree actually prevents grass from growing under it so the area right in front of the house is bare or grass and is just dirt.

I usually take my Menards quote over to Devin at Ar Jays and he's been able to match the price or come very close on a much better product.  2 yrs ago they had the darker cabinets in stock but now they are special order.

3) I know that dark colors are a no-no when trying to sell a house, but would you go darker with paint/carpet to try to lessen the visual of the foundation issues?
