I only know what you confess about being a confrontational person and having an ex-con/bully neighbor and I relate with that.It's a tough situation, no doubt...but, please don't dismiss the other responses because of their judgement or wording, they mostly make total sense and are offering you the path of least resistance and highest probability of safety and success in the long term.I'm not saying give up your warrior spirit, just reminding you that in war, warriors die and more often, innocent civilians(like your family).
