In my former life I was a techie so I like standardization and Google's support is fabulous.

With regard to why people stay where they stay or rent in certain areas - jobs or no jobs, what I found out from my own experience is that people like to stay where their social support is (Friends and family).They would stay in an area even if it's not a good area just because of that reason.

but going in without a plan, without the technical knowledge and without educational support is going to result in failure.  

I am very thankful to have the support I have and if your parents are looking to support you this way, show the initiative and quantify your ideas.

@Nicholas Gray Nicholas, I can't answer your original question because I'm in the earliest, most raw stages of learning about investing but for the sake of moral support, I completely agree with not staying at a job you hate and enduring 40 years of misery for the sake of your salary.

I'm sure it would work great and their support is awesome so they would help you get it up and running in no time.
