I spent 1 month there back in the early '80's on my Aust. passport & also picked up a little of Russian by necessity.One intriguing issue I found in coastal construction, particularly the various early 1920's Mansions, was the structural failure of the cement used.

For those of you in a similar situation- how do you manage the needs of your property and tenants while living/ traveling abroad- is this doable or am I setting myself up for failure? 

Ok, now my failure stories (so much cooler than success stories, it's like shark bites you can show your dates)- Couldn't get a loan for my first fourplex because I couldn't get an insurer.

GC's that fail on large projects don't do much to change the crappy reputation that GC's  sometimes have, and failure of big projects can have blighting effects on an entire community. 

Looks like you had some courageous failures due to acts of God (Hurricane), where no amount of reserves are enough to keep paying all your interest and taxes when your cashflow is non-existent for months together.
