The time thing is mostly just my hours, I work 3rd shift 10 PM to 6 AM and have weekends off so my hours awake are very odd and depend on the day as I do tend to work overtime a lot. 

Most folks from out of the area would tend to visit the parks in summer rather than winter when roads are closed and access is limited.

Any of the suburbs should be good candidates, the school district tends to dictate the desirability.
