I've had that same problem w/ a 20's era basement entrance that had the hole in the concrete with rocks underneath.

The current 1900's era 2 flats and 3 flats are some of the most affordable housing stock. 

We had a 23 unit burn to the ground locally (cigarette butts thrown on mulch) so the Bldg Inspector required our 1960's era 6-plex to have a complete fire sprinkler system throughout per IRC2018.

Locally to Des Moines, we host a monthly meetup at Wobbly Boots (formerly at Ingersoll Tap) on the third Thursday about REI and another on the first Thursday at Feliz & Oscars focused on Financial Independence.

The roof tile was all new but we couldn't justify the expense to tear out the 1870's era 4x12 slightly sagging ridge beam.

Watched an old neighbors 1940's era bungalow get picked up for $599k, razed to the brick walls & basement.

My parents redid an old 1880's era house throughout my entire childhood; it still wasn't finished when I moved out!

Nothing special really, except a 70's era custom, "folk art" kind of bar.
