I wouldn't spend 6 hours driving to visit my handyman in the hospital.I think for a man, instead of flowers, a potted plant.It's not that plants and flowers are so great, but what they say is that someone is thinking of you and that can mean a lot when you are down or unwell.

Maybe a couple of pots with arbor vitae (little conical trees) at the corners with a planter box in the middle would help and tall plants in front of the brick.
