The properties were built turn of the 20th century and previous updates to systems (electrical, plumbing, HVAC) were shoddy at best.

You can't put mid-century modern furniture in that house. 

Needless to say these guys pulled off the scam of the century. 

Most are in the old, rough neighborhoods and are generally just old single families built around the turn of the century that have been converted.

The guys that will take the ugly duckling, gut the kitchen, bathrooms and anything else that needs gutting and yank that home into the 21st century.

That will filter out the part-timers and hobbyist agents.I'd call around to some of the larger brokerages - Keller Williams, Century 21, Coldwell Banker, etc and get a proposal from them.
