Something I have used that turned out great and rediculously cheap is Brushed Aluminum flashing for roofs glued on the wall tacked with roofing nails below countertop and behind the bottom of the top cabinets.

Then i switched insurers and now they are trying to make me cut off the built in gutters on my house, and install aluminum gutters.
