Some of these items could be your preference for responsibility.If you wish to find out what the current or previous owner was paying (to get an average of monthly costs), you can call the electric company, water, sewer, etc, and tell them that you are looking to purchase a property and wanted to get info on the past usage.

Sure that results in higher rents to offset, but studies have shown that when the tenants pay for their own utilities there is 20% less usage

The most surprising usage to me was they used QR codes to tweet, as well as to send text messages to girl friends and boy friends.As for the analogy to supermarket products, I don't think the context is the same.
