In addition, we are taking advantage of a program offered by the local energy company to install Smart Thermostats in the building at no costs.

I have a smart range which tells me when it's on and being used; smart door lock which tells me when it's locked and unlocked and I can let people in (or lock them out, if they're late checking out) as necessary; smart thermostat (Google Nest learning, which is an awesome thermostat), which I can limit the lower levels of cooling or upper of heating; smart ceiling fans that I can turn on, off or speed up/slow down as necessary; smart lights that I can activate or deactivate as necessary; ETC.

My current set up:(1) Furnace (in unfinished basement) with shared duct work to both units (1) Water heater in basement used for both units(2) separate electrical boxes for each unitHeat/ gas bill shared Separate Cooking oil/ stove bill for 2nd floorNo ACThe thermostat / temperature control is only in the 1st unit so all the 2nd floor can do is open/ close its duct work----Seems like I have three options that i can think of.

Gocontrol zwave thermostat (only 4 buttons bc people are stupid). 

Rodents, windows, stove rodent droppings, can’t control thermostat tenants downstairs defacing the property, punched a hole in wall and wires were exposed.

Changed out thermostat and front door lock with smart devices so I could monitor from home.

Hey all - Wondering if anyone has experience switching out an old Honeywell thermostat that is used for a hot water heater system to a smart thermostat (we bought the Amazon smart thermostat). - see attached photosIt's for our new airbnb listing.

He used smart home technology, sensors, digital door locks, an online thermostat, and outside cameras so he could keep an eye on the comings and goings of his guests.

You have to weigh the risk/benefit ratio and to me there is not enough risk for me to provide network separation between the guest using internet and my wifi thermostat, ring camera, streaming TVs.  

House Thermostat - The thermostat is not to be adjusted by any tenants.
