,i saw people putting exterior carpet (no pad) in "flood-able" basement . maybe check after a big convention.... they almost give it for freesince you have kids, they are some rubber/plastic tiles (resembles the kids interlocking puzzles, but better quality/thicker) in case you need some thermal isolation
