Especially when you find out the sewer line had only been replaced partially, or the knob and tube wiring WASN'T replaced like they said, etc. 

Some of these houses have nightmares of knob-and-tube wiring packed with insulation, leaky cast iron sewer pipes, and cosmetic renovations slapped on to cover up structural issues.

From the many kinds of roofing materials you will come upon to asbestos siding and deteriorating brick to wet basements, knob and tube, cast iron pipes and plaster walls ... start learning about this stuff. 

Your renovations might just come in the way of updating electrical (they usually have knob and tube if they haven't been updated yet), plumbing and the heating HVAC systems.

I'd be asking when major items were done like roof/ HVAC, also because they are older I'd be asking about galvinized pipe and knob and tube wiring.4.

That's going to depend a lot on the mechanicals, if you've got knob and tube, barely working HVAC, and corroded galvanized pipes that's going to eat up a lot of money for little ROI.

The home has knob and tube wiring, that I'm requesting get changed out.
