Can landlords ask for immigration documents?

Great stuff in Pittsburgh, probably great stuff in Joliet, not so good with European immigrant populations.

But I am also wondering about renting to undocumented immigrants.

Not sure if IRS double checks with SS or immigration for the legal ability to work.   

Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) allows photocopying of the green card.

And we have a much larger population, with immigration issues.  

In some cases, landlords have asked for last 3 months + 1.5 month security deposit upfront, especially from potential tenants who have great income but have recently immigrated to the country and so do not have sufficient credit profile.

New houses built by low income, hard working immigrants and refugees, who don't see these areas the way we do.

You can see that our immigrates from these countries have it mostly correct, they send their kids for practical degrees in medicine, engineering, and accounting.
