Here’s some general advice: Running a successful STR comes down to 3 Ps: pics, people & pricing.1) Decorate your house nicely & pay a professional photographer to take some amazing picsAlso, be prepared to constantly reinvest some of your profits into your house in order to keep it in tiptop shape.

Some things you don't see coming - like you'll usually need 2-3 sets of linens, and things like just the curtains from walmart cost me $400.We've never used an interior decorator - waste of money in my opinion.

They are also decorated like Hugh Hefner's mansion.

I really like the idea of Agreeable Gray with accent walls or decorative pops of color.

I charge $600 a week for a 3 bedroom house with a washer/dryer, full kitchen, cable wifi, and bedrooms decorated like Hugh Hefners mansion. 

If around any holiday you can look for decorations.  

A landlord shouldn't feel obligated to provide furnishings or decorations.
