I bought some a few months ago for a rental on sale and installed in two bedrooms over concrete slab with plastic sheeting underlayment as recommended.

Is the crawlspace treated for moisture (usually pea gravel and plastic) Is there free airflow between the crawl and the basement? 

My problem got a lot better with some scrubbing with a plastic bristle brush and some ajax powder bleach, but its not totally gone yet.

The plastic on my baseball cap which I had on backwards (because that’s how I roll) had melted onto my forehead, and the soles of my sneakers had literally melted away to a mushy mess.

If there is any gray colored plastic pipe with crimped copper bands around the fittings, REMOVE IT!

I had a contractor to look at it today and he told me to rip it off and to insert some plastic to prevent it from getting wet. 

Astbestos - we have a plastic box it goes in.

this should soften it. use a plastic spackle knife not a metal one (scratches....) to scrape it.now the next one is to find out what can dissolve the glue/adhesive....try water, mineral spirits, goo-gone, vegetable oil... unless you want to sand/refinish the floors. than you can go gorilla on it with a big scrapper
