I baking soda on carpets or carpet freshener with baking soda leave it on a day or twoPlain vinager to wipe over surfaces and set out some in a bowl in funky closetsYou can wash drapes curtains in two cups of it after you dry them it don't smellAlso worked on several coats I left in an unused closet used two cups and it removed musty smell.

Downstairs: gutting and opening up the kitchen, adding a dishwasher, gutting and enlarging the main bathroom and gutting the 1/2 bath, enlarging the master bedroom closet, adding laminate floors and new paint.

(knock on wood).put Panasonic fans in each bathroom. they are the best and it's just a few bucks more than the crappy Nutone from HD.not sure why people are having problems with disposals. i put brand new one in each house.put slotted bifold closet doors if closet has exterior wall. it will allow air movement, so wall will not mold.

Locating the extra bath near the existing plumbing makes all that easier to accomplish.As far as bedrooms go, you will be putting up a wall, a closet, and a door at minimum.

Approach it this way, "those areas need to remain empty for 2 reasons, one is so that if there is a repair emergency it can be accessed quickly to minimize damage, and 2 if there is ever a fire those items especially in those areas will contribute to the spread of the fire and the difficulty of putting it out"I know in my lease where I rent I signed a clause saying that my garage is for me other areas(attic, crawlspace, outside water heater closet) are off limits for storage or use.

There were several issues noted as relates to the roof including staining in the ceiling of one of the closets and moisture noted in the attic....That to me suggests current and past leakage...something that was never disclosed.
