How best to decide on major CapEx expenses (ie, vinyl windows that may last 20 years but are cheap vs aluminum that may last 50 but are expensive)How best to handle what happens if/when one of us wants out of this in the future for some unforeseen reason?

This saved me so much money on the rehab and helped me understand what fair prices should be for materials and labor.This is a house built in 1967, apparently this neighborhood was built during the 60s and 70s with aluminum wiring.

If it’s an older house they likely threw aluminum vented soffit right over the old wood soffits that had almost zero intake vents.

You might find one with wire burned completely off.Other thing to check is to make sure it is COPPER wire and not aluminum wire. 

Lots of replacement windows, all the interior doors most of the exterior doors, all the baseboards, all the exterior trim gets wrapped in aluminum, and 4 new bathrooms. 

We had to replace electrical panels and rewire due to twisted aluminum and copper, plus had to replace the old Federal Pacific panels, at $3k for the panel and similar price for rewire.

. ;-) I think the bigger issue is whether it is aluminum or copper.
