Sometimes repairs/improvements have to abide by certain external standards, sometimes they require formal notification and approval of neighbors (e.g. installation of a pool), and sometimes they are prohibited altogether.If you have specific repairs/improvements in mind, I would see if you can get in contact with the HOA Board (or Property Management company if relevant) ahead of time to learn of all the relevant guidelines.
