In the book about Warren Buffett called "The Snowball," Alice Schroeder shares an intriguing story Buffett discussed at a workshop when he explained the Dow Jones was at 874.12 in 1964.  17 years later, in 1981, it was at 875.00 - although the economy grew fivefold.

Hey guys, Just curious as to any advice you all have or maybe one of you have actually attended one of these workshops.

Don’t have any experience but I’m willing to learn and tomorrow will attend a Real Estate Investment workshop near to Atlanta, where I live, just to start seeing people and not only blogs and books.I wish you good luck on your path towards your dreams!

It is a non-profit that has several different workshops and meet-ups each month. 

I've been doing research on my own, I've attended seminars, workshops and listen to webcasts when I'm at the gym (in lieu of music) and finally sent out some mailers and made some mistakes in conversation that I am learning from.

Another goal of mine this year is to host some workshops (i.e. first time home buyer, financial planning, etc.) and start both a farming campaign in my neighborhood and a blog to really grow my database and fill my pipeline!

I obviously would want to be cash flow positive from day 1, if I had to do it all over again, but the knowledge I gained about managing from a distance cannot be bought at any guru workshop. 

You don't need to amass all of your renovation skills at once, but you will learn your skills over time.There are three things you need to successfully renovate houses:Knowledge - Basic knowledge and understanding of construction means and methods.Skill/Ability - Physical skill and ability to put your knowledge into practice.Tools - Tools that help you perform certain trades/tasks & repairs more efficiently.KnowledgeI would say YouTube is going to be the most valuable resource to look up 'How To' videos and learn about renovating houses.Home Depot sometimes has workshops on the weekend where you can learn how to tile and do other projects, which might be worth checking out as well.Skill/AbilityOnce you have a basic knowledge and understanding of 'How', you can put your learned skills to the test.  

It sounds like you don't necessarily know each other well and met him at a conference and thought you would pick his brain into how to be successful in real estate.Honestly reading a handful of good real estate books is pretty much the same information as what a lot of the workshops and expensive courses will teach you anyway.

Supposedly they run full underwriting except for the actual property address before the client is even allowed to go out and look at properties.For whatever reason, the leads I've dug up have never followed through with the required workshop and counselor meeting.
