The owner is a family member of a good friend, and the owner pulled some underhanded stuff to get possession of the house after my friends father passed away (it wasn't the fathers house, he sold his to move in with and take care of his elderly mother).

You own the home and have taken possession of the lease, so you are now entitled to any money collected for that period, in this case it sounds like it would be pro-rated to you.

If either of you think they need to move, facilitate that too - offer good reference, help finding a place, moving assistance. whatever can get you possession back quickly.Seems like they are good long term tenants, so try to salvage it, but be wise enough to realize when it is impossible and move on too.

@John Van UytvenThe idea of moving to Florida early on was to get experience in the real estate market and qualifying for in state tuition for USFSP which is ranked at 22nd MBA online program.I want to get a jump start on invest and learn more about the field and do not want to wait any longer than I have to in fear of eventually becoming complacent.I don’t think I will have to pay any dues while possessing a license.
