@Emilie PaThe answer may be a bit more involved than you're aware, depending on if your language of the company "selling" to you is correct, or whether the company is dissolving and distributing its assets to the shareholder. 

Wanted to get involved in a community such as BP and start to talk and meet like minded people.

Would my wife have to be involved if I'm not on the mortgage.

This is assuming the entity is not a C corporation or has some UBIT blocker involved.
