A few years ago i was stupid enough to get my car repossessed and that tanked my credit worthiness, plus i have a few debts that went into collections but all that are being cleared as we speak and the repossession is being taken care of too.

If you're prepared to put in the work it can definitely pay off.If you're just looking to buy a house with traditional financing from a lender, credit scores matters.The basic things a lender/underwriter for residential is looking for is:1) Steady W-2 Income (the bigger the better)2) A low debt to income ratio (Current monthly debt payments/current monthly gross income)3) Credit Score/Credit worthiness (Although FHA/Home Ready have lower requirements on credit scores)4) Property value (Appraised value vs. purchase price)I purchased my first condo in 2013 using an FHA mortgage.

Both are still wrecks, the value of both are less, the mentality of the borrower has already been tainted and in a different mindset than a more credit worthy borrower.
